E3 2012: Sony Conference Summary

Sony definitely showed of an impressive set of games at their E3 conference. Kicking off with their brand new IP Beyond, where the main character has been motion captured/performed by actress Ellen Page. Taking a step up from the impressive motion capture work in L.A. Noire, Beyond proved to be an impressive opener to the conference. Beyond packs a supernatural storyline, and looks great!

Next up was Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, which was incredibly similar to Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. The game will include characters such as Kratos, Ratchet and Clank, and two exclusive reveals-Nathan Drake and Big Daddy. Regardless of this being a clone of Smash Bros, it does look pretty damn fun.

LittleBigPlanet 2's Cross-Controller DLC was briefly talked about after this, which includes some new levels. Playstation One games will also be added onto the Playstation Vita in the near future, including titles such as Tomb Raider.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified will be coming to the Playstation Vita this winter. It'll include Vita exclusive bonuses.

Next up was Assassin's Creed III: Liberation for the Playstation Vita and Assassin's Creed III for the Playstation 3. Both look pretty impressive! We were treated to some brand new naval footage, where players will get to steer the ship and take part in some sea warfare. Sony also announced that Assassin's Creed III will be launched as a special PS3 bundle, complete with the game and DLC.

Far Cry 3 was next, and the four player multiplayer co-op play was demonstrated on stage, Playstation 3 exclusive DLC was also confirmed.

After this, Augmented Reality was introduced via Wonderbook, a book which displays animated, 3D images via the TV screen.Sony announced that they are collaborating with Harry Potter author J K Rowling and the Pottermore service to put Book of Spells as the launch title. Wonderbook uses the Playstation Move to cast spells and control the book. No doubt this will be a hit with the kids.

Andrew House then briefly explained that Playstation Suite is being renamed for Playstation Mobile. Mobile apps will also be available on HTC phones.

Returning to some demo playthroughs, God of War: Ascension was up next. The gameplay preview showed Kratos battling Minotaurs and battling hoares of enemies. The game looks fun, but it's more of the same from this series. If you're looking for a refreshing spin on the series, judging by the gameplay footage we were shown, you probably won't find it here.

And finally, Sony's conferenced closed with another new IP-The Last of Us. Showing off some fantastic graphics, the gameplay demo packed plenty of shooting and melee action. It's another one of the stand out games of the conference, so keep an eye on this one!

The best of the Sony conference:
The Last of Us
Assassin's Creed III
Playstation All-Star Battle Royale (not original, but looks incredibly fun!)
