Enix's Bizarre Past

Square Enix may be known nowadays for creating the Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts games amongst many others, but once upon a time, things were a definitely different!

As highlighted in this article on Cracked.com, Enix, before they merged with Square created a bunch of disturbing games for the PC. These early games were highly questionable, and best avoided. No doubt Square Enix look back and cringe at these...

Take Guest Mariko Hashimoto for example. The game features pits players as the protector of Mariko, who rather unfortunately for herself has knifes thrown in her direction, people hook her up to high voltage batteries or in range of explosives. The aim is to stop her from dying, so that she can shed her clothes off (with your help of course) at the end of it all.
Even worse than this is their next game, Lolita Syndrome. At the beginning of the game, players have a choice of opening five doors, each one has a ten year old girl tied up inside. The aim? Nothing other than taking off each of the little girls clothing. Every item of it. Once the game is completed, the player is 'rewarded' with an image of a naked girl, as a hand comes out to grab her behind.

Thankfully, Enix have clearly seen the error of their ways and have developed some quality titles since their merge with Square Enix. It's just a bit creepy to look back and think that this is what they could have been stuck on for a lot longer if they hadn't have decided to move on. Shudder.
