Not Gaming-Related, But Please Read...

Hello all,

First of all, my apologies for doing a non-gaming related post, especially to those who subscribe to my blog and were expecting another bit of gaming news from myself, but I thought this was important enough to reach out to you all about.

On the 22nd June 2013 myself, along with my Mum and a bunch of her friends, will be running the Race for Life in aid of Cancer Research. Almost everyone has been directly or indirectly affected by cancer. A few of my family members have suffered through it and sadly were beaten during their battle-my Grandad being the latest.

I've decided to run this to try and raise a little bit, mainly in memory of my Grandad, who passed away two years ago.

We now have a donation page online. I'd appreciate it if anyone who has some money to spare-however little it may be, donates some on our page. Please make sure you click 'Gift Aid' when donating! If you are a UK tax payer, then the government will add a little bit more onto your donation, without you having to pay it! Every little helps.

To make it a light-hearted, fun event, we're going in pyjamas and are collectively named 'The Pyjama-Ramas!'.

Thanks to everyone who has! All of you will be making a difference. :)

8-Bit Girl Colouring Book Commissioned for Charity!

With a co-writer whom this topic is relating to, I thought it was perfect time to tell you all about Colour For Causes.

Colour For Causes provides cute colouring sheets and activity books for children, that can be downloaded in a PDF format once a £1 or more donation to one of the chosen charities (either Mind or MS Trust) has been pledged.

My co-writer, Anna, who you may have seen post on here quite regularly lately, suffers from mental health difficulties. I decided to donate towards Colour for Causes and commissioned a book centred around my blog, 8-Bit Girl, games and us two blogging ladies.

The book, available in PDF format, is now available to purchase, via donating on the Colour For Causes site. All proceeds will be going towards mental health charity Mind, to help people, like Anna, who suffer from day to day with a mental illness.

The book is 10 pages long, and has various colouring sheets and activity pages in it. The sample pages below are free for you to use and appreciate. (of course, the PDF pages are much bigger though!)
Front Cover!
Tomb Raider!

Don't forget to write what book you want in the donation comment!

It's a fantastic book with adorable illustrations...plus, it's all going to a great cause...every last penny of it!

Donate here!

Thank you to everyone who has shown some kindness and bought themselves a copy. We hope you like the book, and thank you for donating towards a charitable cause!

Plants vs. Zombies Hip-Hop For Charity!

Crazy Dave, one of the characters from Plants vs. Zombies has released a single. As bizarre as it sounds, Crazy Dave's first single, called "Wabby Wabbo" is available to download exclusively on iTunes. All proceeds for the track to a charity called Concern Worldwide, an organization that assists poverty stricken countries.

PopCap have announced that Crazy Dave's music video has hit a whopping 465,000 views on YouTube so far, and the track can be downloaded any-time from now until the 22nd December. Check out the video below!

Soundtracks to be Bundled With Indie Games

Humble Indie Bundle is a site which allows gamers to pay what they want for one of their featured games. The proceeds from the sale go to charity, whilst the gamer gets a copy of their game for Mac, Windows or Linux. The site has already brought in over $1.4 million dollars in only a few days, but Humble Indie Bundle has now included free soundtracks to all seven independent games for everyone who donates and purchases a copy of one of the games.

The music can be downloaded after the game has been downloaded, and can be found in a link to the right of the platform selection tool on the post-purchase landing page.

Many of these games have excellent accompanying music, with Super Meat Boy and Cave Story getting my thumbs up.

PS3 Attitude at London Gaming Con

The opening of the London Gaming Con was hosted by a member of the Anime League dressed as Mario. Whilst the intro was slightly awkward he did his job well, managing to pull a few laughs from the audience. This was aided by his rather dodgy outfit that made his fat suits stomach look more like a front bottom. After his initial chat and a quick presentation of what was to come, he introduced the head of PS3 Attitude to the stage.

DolphGB quickly introduced himself and got straight to the point. Dolph is set to tackle the toughest 10k obstacle course in the country, thanks to Mens Health. However he is not doing this just for himself, as all of the money that he raises will go to charity.

So far PS3 Attitude have raised just over £300 for GamesAid childrens charity, their charity of choice. Deciding that this was not enough, the good people at PS3 Attitude have secured a huge amount of donated prizes from various companies.

So far they have gathered up T-Shirts, games, figures, plush toys, posters and vouchers for game downloads.

For a chance to win some of these amazing goodies go to DolpGB's donation page and make a donation of at least £5. Be sure to leave your full name so they know who to contact. For every £5 you donate you will secure yourself a single entry into the competition, therefore the more money you put in the more prizes you stand a chance of receiving.

On the 16th of December no more donations will be taken and the PS3 Attitude Team will randomly draw names from a hat. There is a maximum of two prizes per entrant to try and keep it a balanced competition.

The contest is open to all as long as they can ship from the US or the UK.
I know I will be entering, as  with over 70 prizes up for grabs, the chances of winning something are nice and high. Plus, even if you don't win, it is all for a good cause.

Anniversary Art Now Being Sold!

Last month saw in the 15th anniversary of the Tomb Raider series, with a digital art exhibition planned in celebration. The 4th of October signalled the start of the online exhibition, which featured art from a variety of artists that have worked on the Tomb Raider series in some way in it's 15 year span.

These works were only available to view via an online gallery on the Tomb Raider website, but now fans will be able to purchase prints and t-shirts of the artwork on Chuck star Zachary Levi's website, Nerd Machine

This collection of Tomb Raider merchandise is being sold as limited editions, with a chunk of the proceeds going to Penny Arcade's Child's Play charity. There are a variety of different styles on offer in this anniversary art exhibition, with Andy Park's and Toby Gard's entries being two of the best.
